Pencil vs. Yarn

I have great respect for traditional animators, painstakingly drawing frame by frame every image of every scene.

I will never be one of those people.

It's not that I can't draw.  I'm not sure if you can get into, let alone graduate from a good art school without having/gaining some level of artistic skill.  My trouble is that I draw with the swiftness of a majestic turtle.

I went to school with some super talented and speedy artists.  Give them thirty seconds and they will give you a rough yet wonderful masterpiece.  Give me thirty seconds and I will give you a thumbs up and a promise to get back to you on that.  And if you want to WATCH me draw, well suddenly I've completely forgotten any and all skills I may possess.

But that's all okay, because you know what? I never wanted to be a traditional animator!  I greatly enjoy doing...whatever it is I currently do. 2.5D animation? Mixed media? I don't know.  What I do know is that I don't lose all cognitive function when someone catches me crocheting.  AND it's one of the few times you're allowed to keep assorted body parts under your bed and not get arrested for it.

Seriously, they're made out yarn. Please don't call the cops.

So maybe you're really great at drawing, or you sculpt like a boss, or you make super cool exotic birds out of paper clips.  You be you!!  Find out what works for you and own it.  Better yet, turn it into a wicked animation. I'd love to see it!  :)

Much love,

Nicole
